Aromatherapy:
-
- What is it?
- How does it work?
- How is it applied?
Aromatherapy is a natural wholistic healing treatment, using natural extracted oils from plants. The oils used in aromatherapy are known as essential oils. Different oils contain different healing properties that can improve physical ailments, as well as mind and spiritual health and wellbeing.
Aromatherapy has been used for millennia, to treat a range of physical and mental condition. Some common conditions that may be alleviated by use of aromatherapies include but is not limited to:
-
- burns
- bites
- infection
- depression
- insomnia
- high blood pressure.
Be sure to check with your practitioner what is available for your condition.
Application for aromatherapy is generally via inhalation or topical application.
Inhalation is where the aromas are released into the air so they can be inhaled to enter the bloodstream via the olfactory or lungs where their healing benefits can take effect.
Topical application is application to the skin (essential oils should always be diluted before topical application).
Aromatherapy promotes relaxation and relieves stress.
